NYAPRS: Supporting Recovery

Founded in 1981, with origins in the clubhouse and social club community models, the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS) is a statewide coalition of individuals who use and/or provide recovery oriented community based mental health services. Through diverse programs at multiple locations, the organization focuses on public policy, pairs and supports peers with individuals to offer unique opportunities for successful recovery, leads systems transformation projects, and works to promote the employment, economic self-sufficiency, and social inclusion of individuals with psychiatric diagnoses and disabilities across New York State.

NYAPRS is a champion and vocal advocate for individuals throughout New York. Since 2015, the organization has been using AWARDS, our web-based electronic health record (EHR), to document the services it provides to consumers directly. Foothold Technology also supports more than 25 NYAPRS member agencies who are using AWARDS.

The issues addressed by NYAPRS and the thought leadership the organization shares is rich and important in our ever-changing landscape of care. Our own Senior Advisor, David Bucciferro, who spent 25 years at the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYSOMH), has a long history of working with NYAPRS and its coalition of individuals and organizations. David is a frequent presenter at NYAPRS events where he shares his expertise, while simultaneously learning from attendees through their inspiring stories. We had the pleasure to capture thoughts from a few attendees at the NYAPRS annual conference last year.
